Is this any way to run a railroad?

A new study set to be released Tuesday shows that family-friendly movies are more profitable than R-rated films, throwing more fuel onto the fire of the long-running debate over sex and violence in entertainment -- and whether it sells.

Do you think stockholders should stage a revolt? Why invest in companies that deliberately seek to make less than they can? But that's what the movie studios have been doing for decades. Pursuing the plaudits of friends and critics, showy awards, rather than making money and a return on investment.

Of course, the market could correct this if competent people decided to create new studios that sought to satisfy the largest and most profitable market.

It will take more than one Philip Anschutz to make a difference.

Let's see how The Lion, The Witrch, and the Wardrobe does in December.
