File Under: Malvolio

Two men arrested while standing in line to get into a courthouse for telling lawyer jokes. Talk about what power and pretense do to some people.

A lawyer ahead in the line told them to "shut up" and had them arrested.

The attorney reported Kash and Lanzisera to court personnel, who arrested the men and charged them with engaging in disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.

"They put the handcuffs on us, brought us into a room, frisked us, sat us down and checked our driver's licenses to see if there were any warrants out for our arrest," Lanzisera said yesterday. "They were very nasty, extremely nasty."

This is not exactly the situation of someone joking about a bomb on an airplane. You wonder how this can be possible, for human beings, Americans, to have lost all perspective and common sense, from the lawyer to the arresting officers, and so on down. Was there no one to say - hey, this is dumb, you guys. Fugeddaboutit.

Yup, the world is mad.
