Thursday, June 03, 2004 Hmmm Jonah Goldberg wonders today: Having recently watched Matrix Revolutions, how come there are so many distinct races in the "real world"? If humanity repeatedly replaces itself by breeding a new population from a small number of humans, you would think that there would be a lot more intermarriage and, hence, a lot more Tiger Woods types. Now that I think of it, I don't recall any explanation in the trilogy as to how the machine world gets people to reproduce for it so that they become energy/heat producers for them (an absurd idea and entropically silly). The people of Zion are not enough to replace all the people naturally dying in their tanks every day, and aren't the "Zionists" periodically slaughtered anyway (because there have been something like ten Neos)? So who's making all the babies? I guess it's all test tube procreation, then. posted by Mark Butterworth | 9:06 AM | |
