Thursday, April 08, 2004 Going to the Matt Matt Andrade has two new paintings in his Cathedral series here and here. I think these stark, yet beautiful paintings have serious things to say to Christian people. They both invoke faith and hope, yet challenge committment by demanding some self-examination. They are not "safe" works of art, but they are evocative and also lovely to gaze upon. They have a somewhat surreal quality moderated by their naturalistic elements.
